Samuel Browd
Dr. Samuel R. Browd, M.D., Ph.D. is, among other things, committed to making it safer for athletes to keep their heads in the game.
Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of VICIS, Inc., a company developing an improved football helmet designed to reduce impact forces, Dr. Browd is an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington (UW), Attending Neurosurgeon at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Medical Director of the Seattle Children’s Sports Concussion Program, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Bioengineering and affiliate faculty of the Foster School of Business. He also serves as an Unaffiliated Neurologic Consultant to the NFL and as an Independent Neurologic Consultant to the Seattle Seahawks.
Dr. Browd completed a combined M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Florida, studying neuroplasticity and learning, and his current interests include concussion, hydrocephalus and biomedical engineering solutions in neurological surgery. In addition to VICIS, he also co-founded Aqueduct Critical Care, Inc., which is developing a self-regulating device to manage brain ventricular drains, and Navisonics, Inc., focused on developing a micro-ultrasound device to accurately place catheters into the brain.
In addition, he is a UW Presidential Entrepreneurial Faculty Fellow and is on the Advisory Board of CoMotion, UW’s commercialization group.
