Nathan Sawaya’s childhood dreams were always fun and creative and his days filled with imagination. He drew cartoons, wrote stories, perfected magic tricks and played with LEGO®.

So of course he attended NYU School of Law and became an attorney.

But when he quickly realized he’d rather be expressing himself creatively than sitting in a boardroom negotiating contracts, Nathan indulged his inner child to establish a new art revolution.

Now a New York-based artist who creates awe-inspiring large-scale sculptures using only LEGO® bricks, his work is obsessively and painstakingly crafted and both beautiful and playful. His ability to transform an ordinary toy into something new, his devotion to scale and color perfection and the way he conceptualizes the action of his subject matter enable him to elevate an ordinary toy to the status of fine art.

The author of two best-selling books, Nathan was once referred to as “…a surrealist mash-up of forms and artists. Imagine Frank Lloyd Wright crossed with Ray Harryhausen, or Auguste Rodin crossed with Shigeru Miyamoto.” The unique sculptures in his touring exhibition The Art of the Brick – which CNN named one of the top 12 must see exhibitions in the world – continue to inspire creativity and break attendance records around the globe, and he continues to create daily, accepting commission work from around the world.
